What would Jesus do?

He can’t help himself can he?
Pell - supposedly the leader of this countries catholic population shows yet again how tenuous his grasp on both reality and history are.
This is not the first time that he has displayed a startling ignorance of the facts, nor the first time he has deliberately made inflammatory comments about a sensitive issue.
One wonders why, or indeed how, an obviously educated man - he has a PhD in History from Oxford - could continually get things so very wrong.
The answer is simple - it is because he is quite an intelligent, educated man that he appears to be so ignorant.
Pell knows that:
- We live in a climate fueled by fear
- Conservatives continue to stoke the fire of fear
- Catholics tend to be somewhat conservative
- Ignorance and prejudice and fear walk hand in hand
Forget what the bible allegedly says about coveting - Pell certainly covets - he yearns to become the next pope.
He knows that Benedict is not going to be around for long, and he knows that the church has no time for progressives.
It is quite simple really, lash out at:
- Gays
- Muslims
- Other minorities currently despised by 52% of the populace
… and a ticket to Rome is his.
Pell says:
“They are proud of the spectacular military expansion across continents, especially in the decades after the Prophet’s death. This is seen as a sign of God’s blessing.”
How quickly he forgets.
- The Crusades
- God told me to invade Iraq
It is sad that, in a supposedly enlightened, progressive day and age that the catholic church has been unable to rise above its centuries old practice of relying on fear and Catholic Guiltâ„¢ to control and persuade its flock.
