Those madcap North Koreans
Kim Jong Il is mad, a complete nutter - but it can’t be denied that he is also a highly amusing guy.
What is it one must ask, about short men in power that leads them to often becoming crazed dictators - or indeed, short men in general? Look at the following examples:
But good old Kim, he makes me laugh. His rhetoric is pure gold. Every time someone makes a passing comment about the DPRK in an international forum, the Pyongyang Ministry of Information pushes out a couple of lines that would not seem out of place in a Bond… or more likely, Austin Powers film.
Some of the best:
North Korea’s foreign ministry said Pyongyang would “deal merciless blows” against any country that tried to “infringe upon the DPRK’s sovereignty and right to existence even a bit under the signboard of the UNSC resolution”.
“U.S. bases in Japan would serve as a detonating fuse that would plunge Japan into a nuclear sea of fire“
“If the US evades its responsibility and challenges us, we’ll turn the citadel of imperialists into a sea of fire.“
I love rhetoric like that - but even more, I love the idea of a man who would be known as the “Dear Leader” - or who would kidnap foreign movie stars to act in his own crazy film.
We need to embrace this man and his contribution to dark humour, with his puffy hair, platform shoes and height complex - we should be chuckling at him, not responding with rhetoric of our own in kind. All he probably wants is a big hug and some stilts.
