About

Soapbox, pedestal, pulpit, rant, rave, rage - call it what you will, but it is not a “blog”.

The word “blog” is rather clichéd, and inaccurate - as is the concept of venting ones spleen on the ‘net I suppose - blame the conservatives for having too loud a voice in the media, for having a copyright on fear and loathing, for everything that is wrong with the world - but most of all, for forcing me to have to resort to my own e-soapbox.

The name of the site - Raven Paradox - is pinched from the paradox posed by German logician Carl Gustav Hempel in the 1940s.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raven_paradox

“The statement “all ravens are black” is logically equivalent to the statement “all non-black-things are non-ravens”. If we observe a red apple, which is a non-black, non-raven, then this observation should increase our belief that all non-black things are non-ravens and therefore that all ravens are black”

This is obviously flawed, inductive logic violating intuition - yet it is not dissimilar to the thought processes used by many in society today to formulate their opinion, say for example that all Christians are good people or all Muslims are terrorists… sadly though, armed with out fridge magnets, alert but not alarmed, this is the way that society is leaning.

The thing is, I am not even angry about it any more - just disillusioned… which may actually be worse.
